Technology!
recently I have been playing with a heap of home theatre stuff. One of the things I found dissapointing was the lack of any real communication between components. I see this as both a standards failure and a interface failure.
If I want to turn on the VCR from watching TV, I shouldn't need 3 remotes! But I do.

  1. Firstly I need to set the plasma to composite, rather than YUV, which both the HDTV settopbox and the DVD understand.
  2. Then I need to switch the amplifier to Video 1 rather than video 2 to choose the right input.
  3. Finally I need to grab the final remote to press play.

Now I am arranging for this setup to be controlled by a universal remote with macro support so this does become a single button excersize, but really, wouldn't it be easier if they all talked to each other?

Sigh!

Mind you I wish I could afford the setup. I'm sure I'd live with the problems. The owner of it cannot however.
