Bleh
Okay so I am off work for a day. Dunno if I am sick or merely exhausted.
Been thinking about the latest Post on Aki's blog. I first saw it on the 12th over on Peeve Farm and although it was amusing I didn't think enough locals would "get it" to bother posting.
Many people I know seem to be of the opinion that "Bush=Bad therefore Kerry=Good", without actually looking at either candidate at any length. I find that both are distasteful for a variety of reasons. What worries me, though, is that Kerry could pull the US out of the Middle East, which could only be seen as a victory for the extremists in the area. We'd end up with hundreds of little "Hitlers" starting brush wars and eroding the freedoms of those of us in the Western world.
Yes a world controlled by George Bush is bad, but the alternative is so much worse. Just ask the Buddhas of Afghanistan. That's right! you can't. They were dynamited by the Taliban.

I don't think that most of the peeps think that it's "Bush=bad therefore Kerry=good" - what I see is that the motto is more like "anything is better than Bush", which IMHO is a tiny difference.
Currently, the US does shit in the Middle East, frankly - with Bush taking sides for Sharon. The problem is rather to get both sides to find common ground there instead of letting it erode further into the powder keg it already is.
A world controlled by George Bush would be a world where you're forced to take sides for him and if you're not, you're his enemy and thus a terrorist.
And yes, I do know that that does not excuse any violation of human rights or anything.
But YMMV and that's perfectly fine. :-)

And of course Bush has done such a good job of controlling dissent in his own country.
I mean since they locked up Michael Moore and all those actors and musicians that protested.
Hang on. You mean he *hasn't* locked them all up?
Suddam did. The Taliban did. North Korea did. The Chinese did. Hitler did. Castro did. Stalin did. The Burmese did. Pol Pot did.
Am I missing something here?
George W may be bad but there is MUCH worse. Read "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich". Read the bit about Chamberlain. Sometimes we need a warmonger in power.
Oh, I know there's much worse. Just guess how detailed our history lessons at school were, being German. ;-)
Anyway, might be my own overawareness in that regard that makes me perk up when someone is as paranoid as Bush is.
I do wonder sometimes if Bush wants to turn the US into a Christian version of the Taliban regime, with a reduction in citizen's rights and little personal privacy.
